The men's triathlon at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro took place on August 18, 2016, 11:00 UTC − 3 .
Briton Alistair Brownlee was the first triathlete ever to defend his triathlon gold medal at the last Olympic Games . His younger brother Jonathan Brownlee won silver ahead of Henri Schoeman , who was the first South African triathlete to win a medal.
Route
The competition was held in Forte de Copacabana . After swimming 1.5 kilometers on the Copacabana coast , a round course with eight laps, each 4.81 kilometers long, had to be covered by bike. This led from the transition area on the beach via Avenida Atlântica to the north, where the athletes turned east into Rua Djalma Ulrich . The course continued straight on via Rua Professor Gastão Bahiana and turned into Avenida Henrique Dodsworth at the intersection with Avenida Epitácio Pessoa . Via and the Avenida Atlântica the course leads back to the transition area. This resulted in a total distance of 38.48 kilometers that had to be covered with the Radd. At the end, the athletes had to run 4 laps of 2.5 kilometers each, for a total of 10 kilometers. This circuit was on Avenida Atlântica, where there were two turning points in the north and south.
