The women's triathlon at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro took place on August 20th.
Route
The competition was held in Forte de Copacabana . After swimming 1.5 kilometers on the Copacabana coast , a round course with eight laps, each 4.81 kilometers long, had to be covered by bike. This led from the transition area on the beach via Avenida Atlântica to the north, where the athletes turned east into Rua Djalma Ulrich . The course continued straight on via Rua Professor Gastão Bahiana and turned into Avenida Henrique Dodsworth at the intersection with Avenida Epitácio Pessoa . Via and the Avenida Atlântica the course leads back to the transition area. This resulted in a total distance of 38.48 kilometers that had to be covered with the Radd. At the end, the athletes had to run 4 laps of 2.5 kilometers for a total of 10 kilometers. This circuit was on Avenida Atlântica, where there were two turning points in the north and south.
Course of the competition
Carolina Routier from Spain was the first to leave the water and switch to the bike, but later retired from the race due to a lap. A leading group quickly formed on the bike course. The Swiss Nicola Spirig tried several times to tear away from the group, but did not succeed. After cycling, Mari Rabie from South Africa was the first to go on the running track, but was quickly caught up and taken down by the American Gwen Jorgensen and Spirig. On the last lap, Jorgensen increased the pace, was able to break away from the Swiss and celebrate the Olympic victory. In the battle for the bronze medal, the British Vicky Holland prevailed against her compatriot Non Stanford in the final sprint.
