The Triathlon of women in the 2012 Olympics in London took place on 7 August 2012 at Park Hyde instead.

Competition format and route

The race started with a 1.5 kilometer swim on the north side of The Serpentine . After the swim there was a 200 meter long transition area. This was followed by a circuit with seven laps, each 6.137 kilometers long, this had to be covered by bike, which resulted in a distance of 43 kilometers. The circuit led over the Serpentine Road towards West Carriage Drive , before they drove past Buckingham Palace and returned to the transition area.At the end, the athletes had to run 4 laps of 2.5 kilometers, i.e. a total of 10 kilometers, around The Serpentine.

Race course

After swimming in The Serpentine , which is below 20 ° C , a seven-man leadership group formed. With Emma Moffatt from Australia fell a favorite and the race had to retire. After switching to the running track, a group of five athletes took the lead. This group included the Swiss Nicola Spirig , Lisa Nordén from Sweden, Erin Densham from Australia, Helen Jenkins from Great Britain and the American Sarah Groff . First Jenkins had to let the other four go before Groff had to let go on the last lap. The decision about the Olympic victory was made in the final sprint between Spirig and Nordén, who crossed the finish line almost at the same time. After evaluating the photofinishing , both athletes were led with the same time, but the Swiss woman was declared the winner because she was 15 centimeters in front of the Swede. Spirig thus won the first medal for the Swiss delegation at the Games in London . Nordén and the Sveriges Olympiska Kommitté appealed against this judgment to the International Court of Sport , but the court rejected the appeal.
