Career

Started his career with the Dallas Texans and attended college

The son of Mexican parents was born in 1988 in the third largest city in the state of Texas as one of four children. One of his siblings, Luisanna, played on the women's volleyball team at Louisiana Tech University . González began his active football career at a young age when he joined the Dallas Texans , one of the most successful youth football clubs in the United States. Parallel to his time with the Dallas Texans, where he was recognized as an All-American in his age group by the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) in 2005, he was also at the Dallas Skyline High School and on their soccer team integrated. Before that, however, he had already attended the Sidney Lanier Elementary School and the WE Greiner Middle School in Dallas. Above all, Omar González owes it to his mother Maria, who later made it to professional football and the various US youth selections. Her son showed off his footballing skills during a stay in Florida and was brought on the same evening by US scouts to the US Soccer's U17 residency program, in which young US players are to be promoted. Upon acceptance into the program, González moved to the Bradenton Academy in Bradenton , Florida. He continued his academic career there at St. Stephen's Episcopal School , which has a cooperation with IMG.

In 2006, González 'Recording eventually followed at the University of Maryland in College Park , although he also from other universities, such as St. John's University (New York) , the Southern Methodist University , the University of Virginia , of Clemson University , the Santa Clara University and Michigan State University , but chose the Maryland location. In Maryland, he attended the College of Letters and Sciences and was also from 2006 to 2008 in the college football team, the Maryland Terrapins , active as a defender. In his freshman year, González played in 22 games, each of which he was on the pitch from the start, scoring one goal and providing three assists. There he played alongside Maurice Edu , Graham Zusi , AJ DeLaGarza , Rodney Wallace , Jeremy Hall , Stephen King and Chris Seitz, and at the end of his first season he joined the ACC All-Freshman Team together with his team-mate Jeremy Hall and in another regional or country selection. In his sophomore year González started again in all of his 21 championship games and was also voted ACC Defensive Player of the Year 2007 with one goal and one assist . González also made it into the NSCAA / adidas All-American Third Team with Stephen King at the end of the year .

In his senior year of 2008, the US-American-Mexican dual citizen was elected to the NSCAA / adidas All-American First Team and the All-ACC First Team due to his outstanding performance . He previously won the 2008 NCAA Men's Division I Soccer Championship with the team , the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) men's soccer championship , after playing in the final game against the North Carolina Tar Heels from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Pizza Hat Park defeated 1-0. Before that, they had a series of 22 wins and only three losses in the 25 championship games. Due to his outstanding performance in the final and throughout the tournament, González was named the best defensive player of the entire tournament on the same evening. He was also a semi-finalist in the Hermann Trophy that year, which is awarded every year to the best college football player. Over the entire 2008 game year, he played in his junior year in 26 championship games, in which he scored five goals and provided one assist.

As 3rd pick to LA Galaxy

After his college education, Omar González came to the MLS SuperDraft 2009 , where he was drafted as the 3rd pick in the first round for the MLS -Franch LA Galaxy . Just a little over two months after joining the team, the tall defender made his MLS and professional debut on March 22, 2009, when he played for the full game in a 2-2 home draw against DC United . He scored his first professional goal shortly afterwards on April 4, 2009 when he headed into the opponent's goal after a corner kick from Landon Donovan . The game against the Colorado Rapids was nevertheless just lost 3-2. With the team he reached first place in the final table of the regular season in the Western Conference and also made it with the team in the MLS Cup of 2009, where Real Salt Lake beat Real Salt Lake after a 1-1 in regular time and overtime only lost on penalties with just under 4: 5.

In the past season he was the only Galaxy player who was used in all 30 league games. He was in action in the first 29 games for the full length of the game and only had to leave the field after an hour in the final due to injury. In addition, González set several internal club records, so he is z. B. the rookie with the most championship games completed from the start and the rookie with the most completed game minutes. He is also one of two Galaxy rookie players with the most championship games completed in one season. The team received a total of 31 goals this season, only half as many as last year, which also suggests the outstanding talent of the young defender.

After he still had a base salary of $ 65,000 in 2009 and was entitled to a guaranteed transfer fee of $ 142,000, his base salary improved to $ 80,000 in the following year and the guaranteed amount to $ 157,000. In the 2010 game year , González has so far (as of August 12, 2010) played in 18 championship games, scored one goal and is currently ranked first with the team in the Western Conference . In mid-July 2010, the defender was appointed to the squad that was to take part in the 2010 MLS All-Star Game . In the game on July 28, 2010 González was used in the entire second half; the game against Manchester United ended in a 2-5 defeat for the North Americans.

On January 5, 2012, 1. FC Nürnberg announced the commitment of González on loan. González was originally scheduled to return to Los Angeles on February 15. One day after signing, he tore a cruciate ligament during his first training session and then traveled back to Los Angeles for surgery and rehab.

International

González gained his first international experience in 2005 when he was first appointed to the US U-17 team, with which he took part in the U-17 World Cup in Peru that same year . There, the team trained by John Hackworth made it to the quarter-finals and was eliminated from the current competition by 2-0 against their colleagues from the Netherlands . Soon afterwards, the US-American-Mexican dual citizen came into the U-20 team of his home country and played with them, among other things, the Pan American Games in Brazil in 2007 , where he lost to the U-20 national team in a 4-2 defeat Bolivia's two goals scored.

After González on 22 December 2009 by the US A-national team coach Bob Bradley for the first time in the senior team of the United States was brought, he played from that time on some workouts with the national team, but remained at first without using. González made his senior national team debut on August 11, 2010, when he played in the 2-0 defeat by Brazil in front of a crowd of over 77,000 at New Meadowlands Stadium . He played through the full length of the game.
