Onochoi ( Russian Онохой ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Buryatia ( Russia ) with 10,689 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located east of Lake Baikal , about 40 kilometers northeast of the republic capital Ulan-Ude on the left bank of the Selenga tributary river Uda , at the confluence of the river Brjanka.
Onochoi is located in Saigrajewo district about 20 kilometers northwest of the district administrative center.
history
At the end of the 19th century, the Transbaikal section of the Trans-Siberian Railway was built past the old village of Onochoi on the other side of the river . On January 18, 1900, the section with the railway station of the same name was opened.
A settlement grew around the station, which later became a wood processing plant in Soviet times . The new settlement was given the status of an urban-type settlement , the old village has since been called Stary Onochoi (i.e. Old Onochoi ).

Economy and Infrastructure
In Onochoi there are companies in the wood and wood processing industries as well as the food industry.
In the environment of the place, various facilities and military settlements is the Russian armed forces so that repair No. 1,019th of the Air Force (Onochoi-2) , the settlement Swjosdny and two settlements in a few kilometers east railway station in Serowo .
Onochoi is a train station on the Trans-Siberian Railway (km 5676 from Moscow ).
Road connection to Ulan-Ude exists on both sides of the Uda, which is also crossed by a bridge in Onochoi. The regional road R436 running north (right) of the river represents an alternative connection (next to the trunk road M55 "Baikal" ) between Ulan-Ude and Tschita via Chorinsk and Romanowka .
