The Paucarpata district is located in the Arequipa Province of Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of 31.07 km². At the 2017 census, 131,346 people lived in the district. Ten years earlier the population was 120,446. The district goes back to the founding of the city of Santa Cruz de Paucarpata in the 16th century. On May 23, 1995, the western part of the district was detached and has since formed the José Luis Bustamante y Rivero district . The district of Paucarpata and the city of the same name Paucarpata are congruent. Paucarpata is part of the metropolitan area of the provincial and regional capital Arequipa and is located 5 km southeast of the city center.
Geographical location
The district of Paucarpata is located in the eastern center of the province of Arequipa at an altitude of 2405 m . The district has a length in east-west direction of 8 km and a width of 4 km. The river Río Socabaya flows through the southeast of the district and forms the district boundary in the southwest. The district is located at the southern foot of the Misti volcano .
The Paucarpata district borders in the far northwest on the urban district of Arequipa , in the north on the district Mariano Melgar , in the east on the district Chiguata , in the south on the district Sabandía and in the west on the district José Luis Bustamante y Rivero.
