Paweł Blehm

Paweł Blehm (born April 17, 1980 in Olkusz ) is a Polish chess player and teacher. In 1996 he became International Master , since 2001 he has held the title of Grand Master .

Life

Blehm has lived in Baltimore since 2002 , where he studied financial economics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County . Together with the Polish grandmaster Marcin Kamiński he runs the online chess school chessaid .

successes

At the U14 World Cup in 1994 in Szeged he was second behind Alik Gershon . In 1995 he won a tournament in Międzyzdroje . In 1997 he finished second behind Włodzimierz Schmidt at the Polish individual blitz championship in Poznan . In 1998/99 he won a tournament in Hallsberg . In 1999 and 2000 he played on the top board of the Polish team at the U20 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro . Poland won the tournament both times, with Blehm winning all games in 1999 with an Elo performance of 2946. In 2000 he played for the Polish national team at the Chess Olympiad . In the same year he won a tournament in Legnica and the zone tournament in Budapest . In 2001 he won the Ken Smith Memorial in Dallas .

He played club chess in Poland for KS Śląsk Świętochłowice , LKS Czarny Koń Bukowno and Polonia Warsaw . With Polonia he won the Polish team championship in Zakopane in 2000 and in Głogów in 2001 . He also played in the Czech Extraliga , which he won in 2002 with ŠK Hagemann Opava , and the United States Chess League (for the Baltimore Kingfishers ). His current Elo rating is 2505 (as of February 2019), but he is listed as inactive because he has not played a rated game since a tournament in Fort Worth in March 2007 . His highest rating to date was 2547 in April 2002.
