Peter Madsen (born April 26, 1978 in Roskilde ) is a former Danish football player on the position of a striker .

Career

Club career

Madsen began playing football at Roskilde BK in 1906 and moved to Brøndby IF at the age of twelve , for whom he played in the first division from 1997. In his best season in 2002, he scored 22 goals in 30 appearances. In 2002 he went to VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. There he could not assert himself and only came on short assignments. In his four games for Wolfsburg, he did not score a goal. After moving to VfL Bochum in the 2003/04 season, the Dane became one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga and played a part in VfL's qualification for the UEFA Cup . In 32 games he scored 13 goals, including the winning goal to 1-0 against FC Bayern Munich . In the 2004/05 season, VfL Bochum retired from the UEFA Cup in the first round against Standard Liège and was relegated from the Bundesliga. In the second half of the season Madsen was only used sporadically due to injury and a suspension after a red card. Still, he scored five times in 19 games. After the relegation of VfL Bochum, he moved to promoted 1. FC Köln in 2005 and initially stormed alongside Lukas Podolski . After moderate performance, the Dane was then loaned to the English club Southampton FC , where he could not win a regular place. At the start of the season Madsen returned to Cologne for a short time. In the 2007/08 season he was again under contract with Brøndby IF. There, however, he hardly found his way back to his old strength and was finally awarded in January 2011 for half a year to the Superliga climber Lyngby BK . After his loan period had been extended to summer 2012 and Madsen had scored three goals in 29 league appearances by this time (across seasons), he returned to Brøndby IF in early July 2012. In mid-July 2012 he ended his career as a soccer player.

National team

Madsen was part of the Danish national team for the 2004 European Championship in Portugal . There he was used in the quarter-finals against the Czech Republic when the score was 3-0. In total, Madsen played 13 times for the Danish selection. In the friendly match in Poland (5-1) he scored a hat trick .
