Location of Pivitsheide V. H. in the city area

Pivitsheide V. H. is a district of Detmold in the Lippe district in North Rhine-Westphalia , which is about seven kilometers west of the city center. The abbreviation “V. H. ”stands for“ Vogtei Heiden ”, to which the village used to belong. The origin of the name "Pivitsheide" is controversial. It is said to come either from the Low German “Piuits” (poor people) or from the Vogel Kiebitz (Low German “Püiwitk”), in the latter case it is called “Kiebitzheide”. The lapwing prefers heathland landscapes like the Senne . The place is mentioned for the first time in 1617 in the Salbuch of the Vogtei Heiden. The formerly independent municipality was incorporated into Detmold on January 1, 1970.

In addition to Pivitsheide V. H. there is also Pivitsheide V. L. , which is also a district of Detmold. At the beginning of the 20th century, the two places were considered the asparagus and potato villages of Lippes. The owners of the traditional oak jug were the first to grow asparagus on the light sandy soil, which was consumed in May together with senna potatoes and ham.

The Hasselbachteich was created in 1981 on a former industrial site and is now used for local recreation. From 1674 to 1900 there was a paper mill here, then a sawmill and two furniture factories. Today the pond is the starting point for hikes through the Hasselbachtal to the idyllic Donoperteich . This pond, created by the damming of the Hasselbach, was created for fish farming in 1683 at the behest of the sovereign Simon Heinrich before the Thirty Years' War and named after the chamberlain von Donop. The name Hasselbach refers to the dairymen's horses bred here at the time , because "Hassel" means "foal" in Low German.

The neighboring districts of Detmold are Nienhagen , Heidenoldendorf , Hiddesen and Pivitsheide V. L. In Pivitsheide V. H., a total of 3321 citizens live on an area of 3.4 km² (August 2006). Local mayor is currently Ralf Hamann ( SPD ), the representative in the city council is also Ralf Hamann (SPD).
