Plumlov (German Plumenau , also Plumau or Blumenau ) is a city in the east of the Czech Republic . It is located in Moravia , seven kilometers west of the town of Prostějov , and belongs to the okres of the same name .
geography
The city lies on the border of the fertile Hanna plain and the Drahanská vrchovina hill country . The river Hloučela is dammed directly east of the city to the Plumlov reservoir. The Březina military training area begins two kilometers west of the village .
Neighboring towns are Mostkovice in the east, Ohrozim and Vícov in the north and Krumsín in the south.
history
The place emerged at the end of the 13th century as a suburb settlement. Plumlov Castle, built around 1270, was one of the fortifications that King Přemysl Otakar II had built for national defense. The rule soon passed into noble hands. Johann von Luxemburg sold it to the Lords of Krawarn in 1322 . In 1347 Plumlov is first mentioned as a settlement, between 1348 and 1384 the place received city rights. In 1495 the Lords of Pernstein , and in 1590 the House of Liechtenstein finally acquired the property.
The medieval city achieved a certain level of prosperity. However, it lost its importance when Johann von Pernstein built a new castle in nearby Prostějov. During the Thirty Years War, Plumlov was captured twice: in 1619 by the Estates army and in 1643 by the Swedes. The place suffered further looting in the years 1741–1772 by the Prussians. In 1763 it burned down.
The city only experienced a new boom in the middle of the 19th century. In 1846 it was given the right to hold three markets a year, and from 1849–1949 the district court was located here. In 1900 the place had 1,431 Czech inhabitants.
At the present time, tourism is of particular importance in Plumlov because of the nearby reservoir.
Local division
The city consists of the districts Plumlov ( Plumenau ), Soběsuky ( Sobiesuk ), Žárovice ( Zarowitz ) and Hamry ( Hammer ), which also form cadastral districts.
