Benoît Poelvoorde (born September 22, 1964 in Namur ) is a Belgian actor , screenwriter , film director and producer .

Life

At the age of 17, Benoît Poelvoorde was already enthusiastic about the theater , but also drawing and photography . He studied at the École de Recherche Graphique of the Brussels Institute Saint-Luc . In 1992 he had his breakthrough as a director and actor with the film satire Man Bites Dog (C'est arrivé près de chez vous) . This low-budget film became a hit with audiences and is now a cult film . A series of other films followed from 1997 to 2002. In 2002 Poolvoerde was awarded the Jean Gabin Prize . In 2004 he was a member of the jury of the Cannes Film Festival at the suggestion of Quentin Tarantino . In the 2009 film Coco Chanel - The Beginning of a Passion , he played with Étienne Balsan a lover of Coco Chanel (played by Audrey Tautou ).

Poelvoorde has been nominated several times for the Belgian Magritte Film Prize for Best Actor: The anonymous Romantics (nominated 2012), The day will come (nominated 2013), Une place sur la Terre (won 2014), Les Rayures du zèbre (nominated 2015) and Die Guard (nominated 2019).
