Prix France-Allemagne

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prix France-Allemagne was a prize sponsored by the Paris- based Association France-Allemagne , which was awarded from the mid-1960s to 1994 to people or institutions who have made a contribution to the reconciliation between Germans and French. The Association France-Allemagne is a society for the promotion and coordination of Franco-German initiatives for cooperation in the fields of politics, culture, economy, exchange and partnerships.

The prize should not be confused with the French Prize / Prix Allemagne of the Robert Bosch Foundation , which has been awarded to German and French vocational school classes that have carried out a joint project since about 1997.

Award ceremony

The award was presented by the President of the French Senate during a ceremony in the Palais du Luxembourg . Alain Poher , who was also President of the Association of French Mayors, carried out the award until 1992 . Afterwards, the honors were carried out by the subsequent Senate President René Monory .

The actual prize consisted of a medal and an award certificate. In the case of a town twinning, the text of the certificate was as follows (example from 1985):

The “France-Allemagne” prize for town twinning, awarded to Limburg ad Lahn and Sainte Foy-lès-Lyon, was presented on March 27, 1985 in Paris in the Palais du Luxembourg by Senate President Poher. This award confirms the sincere friendships of the partnership that has existed for 18 years.
It honors all citizens of our two cities who have made a contribution to this peace effort through their dedication.

List of award winners

The list below is incomplete, as at least 13 town twinning agreements are missing, which were awarded the prize in 1975. Otherwise it is unclear whether the prize was actually awarded every year.
