Pulau Lankayan is an island belonging to Malaysia in the Sulu Sea and is located about 80 kilometers off the northeast coast of Borneo . The island has been part of the Sugud Islands Marine Conservation Area (SIMCA) since 2001 . Lankayan and the islands of Pulau Tegaipil and Pulau Billean, which are also located in this area, are known as diving areas and important breeding sites for the particularly endangered hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) and green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) .

Pulau Lankayan is an oval, forested island, the treetops of which rise up to 34 m above sea level. The only development on the island is a diving resort. The number of tourists on Lankayan is regulated by the state; a maximum of 60 guests can be accommodated in the resort at the same time.

To protect the island and the tourists - Pulau Langkayan is located in the Sulu Sea, which is endangered by pirates - a permanently manned navy station and a radar station are located on the atoll.
