history

Map of the Drömling by Samuel Walther 1737 with raised areas, the eyrie (brown)

Originally, Röwitz was a dead end village , as can be seen from the Urmes table sheet from 1823. The village was first named as Rouisse in 1339 when Berthold von dem Knesebeck sold it to Gebhard von Alvensleben . In 1394 dat dorp to Rouetze was founded along with other villages and estates by Albert v. Alvensleben and Hinrik v. Eykendorp ceded to the Dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneburg because of their captivity.

In 1737 Samuel Walther wrote in the list of villages of the office of Klötze : " Rovviz otherwise called Roize ". However, Röwitz is on his Drömling card .

The village belonged to the Elbe department in the Kingdom of Westphalia from 1807 to 1808 , then to the Electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg until 1810 and then to the Kingdom of Westphalia until 1813. From 1813 to 1815 it came back to Braunschweig-Lüneburg or to the Kingdom of Hanover. It was not until 1816 that Röwitz came to the Prussian district of Gardelegen in the administrative district of Magdeburg. From July 25, 1952 to 1994, the Röwitz community belonged to the Klötze district . After its dissolution, it became part of the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel on July 1, 1994.

Incorporations

On August 1, 2002, the community Röwitz was incorporated into Kusey. With the incorporation of Kusey into Klötze on January 1, 2010, the Röwitz district became part of the newly created village of Kusey and the city of Klötze.

Culture and sights

  • The Protestant village church Röwitz is a half-timbered building. It must have been preceded by an older one, as it contains an altar shrine from the Middle Ages.
  • In Röwitz there are monuments commemorating the liberation war of 1813 and the fallen of the First and Second World Wars.
  • The local cemetery is located in the northwest of the village.

religion

The Protestant Christians from Röwitz used to belong to the Röwitz parish in the Klötze parish. In 2001 the parish came together with Neuferchau and Wenze to the new parish Kusey, which today belongs to the parish of Steimke-Kusey in the parish of Salzwedel in the Provostspengel Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
