RŽD series ЭС1 and ЭС2Г "Lastotschka" ( Russian ласточка ; German: Schwalbe) refers to a five-part electric multiple unit of the Russian State Railways (RŽD) from the Desiro Mainline vehicle concept developed by Siemens Rail Systems . The production of the multiple units started in April 2011. The first regional trains have been in operation in the St. Petersburg area since the end of January 2013, and further trains are to go into passenger service in the greater Sochi area from autumn 2013 . In addition, these have been used on Moscow's Metro Line 14 operated by RŽD since 2016 .

Manufacturer

The manufacturer is Siemens Rail Systems , a division of Siemens AG . The production of the first 38 trains takes place in its plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen . Another 16 trains are to be increasingly manufactured locally at the Uralskije Lokomotiwy plant near Yekaterinburg in Russia. For a total of 54 trains, the manufacturer will also take care of maintenance over a period of 40 years, for which depots in Adler near Sochi and in Moscow are used. The trolleys are manufactured at the Siemens location in Graz .

Procurement

In January 2010, the Russian State Railways (RŽD) ordered 54 five-part trains that were used on Russian broad gauge as part of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . 38 trains were commissioned directly. They have been manufactured at the Siemens location in Krefeld-Uerdingen since April 2011. The order for 16 more trains was signed in September 2010 at InnoTrans . This number is increasingly being produced in Russia. The order value of all 54 multiple units is 580 million euros.

At the beginning of September 2011, a contract was signed for a further 240 five-part multiple units, for which a preliminary contract was made in June 2011. For this purpose, Siemens previously founded the joint venture Train Technologies together with the Russian Sinara Group . The trains should go into production from 2013.

Delivery and commissioning

On February 16, 2012, the delivery of the first five-car train to the customer began with loading onto an inland waterway vessel in the Rheinhafen Krefeld . The train arrived at the Russian ferry port Ust-Luga on March 4, 2012 . Until 2013, due to the large clearance profile , which does not allow transport by rail or road in Germany, all further transports of the trains manufactured in Krefeld will be carried out in such a way that the five individual wagons are first loaded onto low-loaders to be transported from the manufacturing plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen to To bring Rheinhafen Krefeld. Here they are loaded onto a barge that travels across the Rhine and the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal to Amsterdam , where the individual wagons are reloaded onto a coaster . With this, the transport continues through the Kiel Canal to the ferry port Sassnitz on the Baltic Sea, the only Western European ferry port with Russian broad gauge. There, the five individual wagons are coupled to form a train formation and pushed onto the Petersburg railway ferry by a locomotive .

After the ferry arrives at the Russian ferry port Ust-Luga, the trains will be taken to the Metallostroy maintenance facility , southeast of Saint Petersburg, built for the Sapsan high-speed train, for commissioning . This is where approval and test drives begin, including to the test track of the All-Russian Research Institute for Rail Transport in Shcherbinka . The second train was used on May 30, 2012 for a presentation run by the RZD in Sochi.

On December 17, 2012, the ЭС1L series received approval in Russia from the Russian licensing authority Register for Certification in Federal Railroad Transport (RS FžT) and on January 23, 2013, the maiden voyage from Saint Petersburg to Novgorod took place.

commitment

The first use from the end of January 2013 will take place in the St. Petersburg area in regional traffic on the route towards Moscow to the intermediate station Tschudowo , where the lines to Novgorod and Bologoje ( Tver region ) are divided. Further use in the Kazan and Sochi area is planned for later . By then, all platforms on the Tuapse - Adler route will be converted for operation with the new series. Around Sochi, the vehicles have to be able to negotiate an incline of 40 per thousand to the locations of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Since operations outside of Sochi are also planned, the trains will be equipped for operation in the temperature range from −40 ° C to +40 ° C. For this purpose, two cars were tested in the climatic chamber in Vienna's Floridsdorf at temperatures from −40 ° C to +45 ° C.

In 2018, the trains of the ЭС2Г series were in service in bathing traffic between Kaliningrad ( German  Königsberg ) and Selenogradsk ( German  Cranz ) and Swetlogorsk ( German  Rauschen ) .
