Ray M. Wade Jr.
Ray M. Wade, Jr. (born February 16, 1964 in Clarksville , Texas ) is an American opera singer ( tenor ).
Life
After winning international competitions, tenor Ray M. Wade, Jr. also started a career in Germany. From 1995 to 1998 he was a member of the ensemble of the Mannheim National Theater , where he sang numerous important roles in his field such as Alfredo in La traviata , Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia , Ferrando in Così fan tutte , Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni , and Belmonte in The Abduction from the Seraglio , the Italian singer in Der Rosenkavalier , the Chevalier Belfiore in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims and the Camille de Rossillon in The Merry Widow .
The native Texan studied singing with Willis Patterson and George Shirley. He was successful several times in national and international singing competitions, including winning the International Enrico Caruso Competition in Milan in 1992 and the competition for young artists at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City in 1993 . In 1996 he was one of the winners of the International Queen Elizabeth Music Competition in Brussels .
Stage experiences
Ray M. Wade, Jr. gained his first stage experience in 1983 at Fort Worth Opera, then at San Francisco Opera and Dayton Opera, where he sang the tenor role in the world premiere of Adolphus Hailstork's opera Paul Laurence Dunbar: Common Ground , and on Western Opera Theater as Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni . In 1993 he made his European debut as Don Ottavio in Gent. Meanwhile, Wade also sang in Martinů's Greek Passion at the Bregenz Festival , was successful as Faust in Gounod's opera in Antwerp, sang on the occasion of the Pope's jubilee in the Vatican and in Berlin under the direction of Christian Thielemann Beethoven's 9th Symphony , under Marcello Viotti in Rossini's Stabat mater in the Gewandhaus Leipzig and in 1999 in the Prinzregententheater Munich as Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau as Bassa Selim. He has recorded opera and operetta arias for SWR and has performed in numerous radio concerts, including the Alte Oper Frankfurt . At the side of Edita Gruberová under the direction of Friedrich Haider , he recorded Normanno in Lucia di Lammermoor and Flavio in Norma for CD productions. In June 2013 he sang Georg in Wagner's original version of the Flying Dutchman at the Koblenz City Theater .
