Ray M. Wade, Jr. (born February 16, 1964 in Clarksville , Texas ) is an American opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

After winning international competitions, tenor Ray M. Wade, Jr. also started a career in Germany. From 1995 to 1998 he was a member of the ensemble of the Mannheim National Theater , where he sang numerous important roles in his field such as Alfredo in La traviata , Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia , Ferrando in Così fan tutte , Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni , and Belmonte in The Abduction from the Seraglio , the Italian singer in Der Rosenkavalier , the Chevalier Belfiore in Rossini's Il viaggio a Reims and the Camille de Rossillon in The Merry Widow .

The native Texan studied singing with Willis Patterson and George Shirley. He was successful several times in national and international singing competitions, including winning the International Enrico Caruso Competition in Milan in 1992 and the competition for young artists at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City in 1993 . In 1996 he was one of the winners of the International Queen Elizabeth Music Competition in Brussels .

Stage experiences

Ray M. Wade, Jr. gained his first stage experience in 1983 at Fort Worth Opera, then at San Francisco Opera and Dayton Opera, where he sang the tenor role in the world premiere of Adolphus Hailstork's opera Paul Laurence Dunbar: Common Ground , and on Western Opera Theater as Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni .
