The German National Foundation is a foundation under civil law based in Weimar .

General

According to its own information, the non-partisan, independent and non-profit foundation was founded in 1993 against the background of the German reunification of Federal Chancellor a. D. Helmut Schmidt and some of his friends like Michael Otto , Hermann Josef Abs , Gerd Bucerius and others in Weimar. The office is located in Hamburg . The foundation wants to promote the growing together of East and West Germany . It wants to raise awareness of the national identity of the Germans and to strengthen the idea of ​​the German nation as part of a united Europe . It deals with current policy issues of the nation.

Schoolchildren from European countries meet at the international youth projects (SchulBrücke Weimar and SchulBrücke Europa).
