On August 1st, 2003 the presidents of Namibia and South Africa signed the contract for the new Peace Park , which is now 6235 km². It houses the second largest canyon in the world, the Fish River Canyon , which is 350 million years old. The park is divided by the Namibian-South African border river Oranje . This new national park is one of the Peace Parks in southern Africa , as it connects the regions across two national borders without barriers. The border crossing is a ferry connection at Sendelingsdrift .
