Rita Yahan Farouz (formerly Rita Kleinstein , Hebrew ריטה; born March 24, 1962 as Rita Yahan Farouz ( Pers ریتا جہان فروز) in Tehran , Iran ) is a successful Israeli pop singer and actress.

biography

Rita was born in the Iranian capital Tehran to a Sephardic family who emigrated to Israel in 1970 . Rita began her career in the army in 1980 and became known nationwide in the years that followed. As early as 1986 she tried to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest for her home country , but failed with Shvil ha'bricha in the preliminary decision. This track was later recorded in English as Last of the Great Pretenders and released on their first English-language album Breaking Those Walls . This work was also published in Germany under her maiden name Rita Farouz. The title song was released as a single. A cover version of the Police classic Roxanne also included reached the French top 20 in autumn 1992.

In 1990, Rita finally took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in Zagreb with the song Shara Barekhovot (German: "Sings in the streets") as a representative of Israel . However, she only reached 18th place out of 22 participants.

Due to numerous concerts, she has a large fan base . Illegal bootleg recordings of her songs sung in Farsi made her popular in Persia in 2011, even though the Tehran government had Western pop music removed from the Internet. The Persian version of "All My Joys" was also a great success in 2012 and achieved multiple gold and platinum status.

Her new Persian single, Shane , was released on June 22, 2011 . On March 5, 2013, she sang in Persian, English and Hebrew in front of the General Assembly of the United Nations .

Private

Rita was married to the Israeli musician Rami Kleinstein for over 25 years . The two have two daughters, Meshi and Noam. In late 2007, the couple announced their split.
