Basic intellectual income - the portrait (since 2014)

With the essay “Creating Culture” (Der Konterfei 001) Jelinek closes the art business and in February 2014 founded the journal “Der Konterfei” as an expanded art production. He reduces his artistic production to the interest in knowledge which appears as text in book form. The portrait also serves as preparation for an upcoming summer semester academy. Jelinek is already providing these “study books” for this purpose. In the form of conversations, essays and manifestos, the likeness portrays selected topics and personalities that reflect contemporary social tendencies, “buried” knowledge and interdisciplinary strategies that are relevant to scientific, cultural and humanistic cultural traditions. “What interests me for this academy is the knowledge that lies behind Google, so to speak. This background knowledge has to be drawn from those personalities who, as part of established systems, are ready to share this knowledge. By that I mean a contribution to our basic intellectual income ”. The first publications include conversations with and about Timm Ulrichs, Oswald Oberhuber , Peter Weibel , Bill Drummond , Klaus Ferentschik , Coil , Paul Watzlawick , Olena Chekan, Václav Havel , Achmed Sakajew , André Glucksmann , Boris Nemzow and Genesis P-Orridge . With a bundle of 50 publications, the self-publishing in its previous form was dissolved after five years. Jelinek brought all the books signed by the authors in a slipcase to the library of the Capanna Regina Margerita refuge . The follow-up project was “One”, a series of playable audio postcards with students from several universities and the vinylograph, where a question is directed to a person and the answer is audible with contributions from Bèla Tarr , Christian Fennesz , Sibylle Berg , René Pollesch , Romeo Castellucci .
