Rummelsnuff (born July 14, 1966 in Grossenhain as Roger Baptist ) is a German musician and lyricist who represents the styles of electropunk and modern workers' songs.

Life

Baptist is the son of a family of musicians. His mother is the violin teacher Renate Baptist, who sang in the Gerd Michaelis Choir before playing keyboards and violin with Frank Schöbel . His father is the trombonist Peter Baptist, band leader of the Peter Baptist Combo, with which artists such as Hartmut Schulze-Gerlach and Dieter Birr from the Puhdys played. He grew up near Dresden and was trained as a bassoonist as a child and adolescent . At a young age he played in the symphony orchestra of the Grossenhain district .

In the early 1980s, Roger Baptist began experimental work with old keyboards, microphones, drums, a bass guitar and various tape recorders . Under the influence of the Leipzig band Die Art , he founded the band Kein Mitleid in 1987, which was mainly devoted to English-language music. In 1989 he joined the Dresden underground band Friends of the Italian Opera (FDIO) and, as a co-author of Jänz Dittschlag and RJKKHänsch, created numerous songs for the band, which were published on the record Um Thron und Liebe and the CD Edle Einfalt Stille Größe . After the Friends of Italian Opera broke up in 1992, Baptist founded the EBM and NDH band Automatic Noir, which existed until 1999. After the decline of the project followed several years of abstinence from music.

Baptist worked as a bodybuilding trainer and from 2007 to 2014 worked as a bouncer at the Berlin Technoclub Berghain . Through the contact and various artistic works with the Norwegian artist Bjarne Melgaard , the design for the figure of "Rummelsnuff" was created in 2004.

After the former singer of the FDIO, RJKKHänsch, also known as Ray van Zeschau, on the occasion of his fortieth birthday was able to persuade Baptist on April 17, 2004 to a "special concert" by the Friends of Italian Opera and above all to sing, he finally celebrated in December 2005 in the Kurländer Palais in Dresden, together with Kaltfront, publicly his “rebirth” as a hype.

The first album was released in March 2008 Halt durch! on Alfred Hilsberg's label ZickZack Records . In the same year Rummelsnuff completed a tour of Germany. This was followed by the collaboration with the Bolshevik Kurkapelle schwarz-rot , Arctic Circle 18 , the directors Miron Zownir and Edwin Brienen and others. Baptist also drew attention to himself as an actor in some feature films.

In May 2010 the musician released a second album with the Karlshorst station , which has since switched to the Berlin label Out of Line . This was followed in January 2011 by the DVD plus EP box Brüder / Kino Karlshorst . It contains nineteen music videos previously published by Rummelsnuff. The EP features a new version of The Partisan, written by Anna Marly . He had this song of the French Resistance performed by Christian Asbach , who has since accompanied Rummelsnuff on tours, initially occasionally, and later constantly, and provides vocal enhancement and reinforcement in later pieces.

Rummelsnuff calls his style "Derbe Strommusik" or Electropunk - Gassenhauer . Sports and workers anthems are represented as well as gloomy ballads . Most of the texts are in German . In addition to the Spanish-language piece Hombres, Hombres , the partly Romanian-language Salutare and Hammerfest , which is partly sung in Norwegian , he also recorded several cover versions in the original language, such as Mongoloid from the US new wave band Devo and the French chanson Nathalie by Gilbert Bécaud . Barry Manilow's world hit Mandy, however, translated Rummelsnuff into German. Auf Himmelfahrt (2012) there is a new version by the Italian hit song Azzurro with the original Italian text, performed together with fellow campaigner Christian Asbach.

Live the solo project Rummelsnuff was and is accompanied by various guest musicians, for example from 2005 to 2010 by drummer Ralph Qno Kunze and since 2009 by Rajko Gohlke as guitarist, who otherwise plays bass with Knorkator and FDIO . The Hamburg accordion player Bernd Butz accompanies the so-called Stromlos concerts .

In 2013 he appeared in video clips of Fettes Brot and The dead crack whores in the trunk . At the end of October 2013 his album Kraftgewinn was released . In addition to Rummelsnuff, Christian Asbach, Bela B , King Khan , Häusi Eisenkumpel, Oleg Matrosov (Apparatschik) as well as guitarist Rajko Gohlke and trumpeter Christian Magnusson contribute to the various songs on the album .
