The Jeserzer See or Saisser See ( Slovenian Zajzersko jezero ) is a lake located on the ridge north of the Wörthersee in the municipality of Velden am Wörther See . He is the center of the conservation area, Jeserzer lake.

description

The lake is at an altitude of 593 m and is 13.3 hectares in size. It lies in a boggy depression over old crystalline rock. The surrounding crests are up to 693 m high. The lake has a maximum depth of 6.6 meters. Only a few small rivulets serve as tributaries, which is why the lake has only weak flows and the water temperatures in summer reach over 25 ° C. The lake is therefore a popular bathing water. The water is slightly brown, which is due to the surrounding moorland.

The lake has well-developed underwater vegetation. At a depth of 1.5 to 4.5 meters, candelabrum algae predominate and form a closed carpet. In the shallower parts grow milfoil , in the west bank area Potamogeton Crispus . The white water lily occurs occasionally. The bank areas are predominantly natural and consist of cut reeds and reeds . Black alders grow near the runoff on the north bank . In many places the bank is formed by vibrating lawn, in which peat moss and sundew also grow.

Landscape protection area

The Jeserzer See was declared a landscape protection area in 1970 with the surrounding areas, the whole area covers 112 hectares.
