Samuel Sáiz Alonso , (born January 22, 1991 in Madrid ) also known as Samu Sáiz , is a Spanish football player . The offensive midfielder is under contract with second division club FC Girona .

Career

Beginnings in Spain

Born in Madrid , Sáiz joined Real Madrid's youth at the age of eight . From 2008 he played for the C-team in the fourth-class Tercera División . In the following season 2009/10 he ran for Real Madrid B in the Segunda División B , where he was able to score five goals in 23 games. For the next season he was loaned to the reserve team of Sevilla FC , where he also played in the third class.

After the end of the 2010/11 season, he left his youth club Real Madrid after twelve years and joined the third division UD Melilla . In January 2012, he terminated his contract and signed a contract with the B-team of Getafe FC . After good performances in the reserve eleven, he made his debut in the Primera División on April 1, 2012 when he came on for Jaime Gavilán in the 3-0 defeat at Atlético Madrid in the closing stages . He also played the 2012/13 season at Getafe B, where he scored eleven goals in 1½ years.

On July 8, 2013 changed Sáiz to UD Almería B. After half a year he left the B team of UD Almería again and signed with Atlético Madrid B . Due to his strong performance in the Segunda Division B, he was allowed to train a few times with the first team and was also part of the squad at the league game against Villarreal . In this game, however, he was not used. For the reserve of the capital city club, he scored eight goals in 33 missions in the 2014/15 season and prepared three more.

SD Huesca

On August 5, 2015, Sáiz moved to the second division SD Huesca in a loan deal . He made his debut on August 22, 2015 in a 3-2 home defeat against Deportivo Alavés , when he came on for Darwin Machís in the 72nd minute . Just two minutes after coming on, he scored his first goal for Huesca. In March 2016, the permanent move from Samu Sáiz to Huesca was announced. In his first season 2015/16 he made 29 league appearances in which he scored three goals. During this season he also increasingly held the position of hanging lace .

In the following season 2016/17 Sáiz made his breakthrough. He developed into the undisputed regular player in the team from Aragon . He scored twelve goals in 40 league games and prepared eight more and was a major reason that the team qualified with 6th place in the table for the promotion playoff. There they failed in the semifinals at their former club Getafe.

Leeds United

On July 10, 2017, Sáiz moved to the English second division club Leeds United , where he signed a four-year contract. The Whites paid a transfer fee of 3.5 million euros for the attacking midfielder . He made his debut on August 9th in the League Cup game against Port Vale . In the 4-1 home win, he scored three goals in the second half and became the first Leeds player since Carl Shutt in 1989 to hit a hat trick in his first appearance. He played his first league game three days in a 0-0 draw against Preston North End . On August 19, he scored his first league goal in a 2-0 away win against AFC Sunderland . He also prepared the second goal by Stuart Dallas . In the surprising 1: 2 away defeat in the FA Cup game against AFC Newport County , he was sent off with a straight red in stoppage time in the second half after spitting on Newport's Robbie Willmott . After this incident, he was punished with a six-game suspension. In his first season at Leeds, he played 37 games in which he scored nine goals and eight assists.

On December 17, 2018, Sáiz was loaned to his former club Getafe FC for the remainder of the 2018/19 season. For the first division, he was used in ten league games. His only goal was on April 28, 2019 in the 2-1 away defeat by Real Sociedad . In late May 2019, Sáiz hit the headlines off the field. He is suspected of being part of a criminal association alleged to have manipulated football matches in Spanish professional leagues.

FC Girona

After losing out on prospects at Leeds United and falling out of favor with the Whites due to suspicions , Sáiz returned to Spain on July 18, 2019, where he joined La Liga relegated FC Girona .
