Saxeten is a municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
Saxeten ecclesiastically belongs to the parish of Gsteig near Interlaken .
geography
The name Saxeten probably goes back to the Latin form saxata (rocky place).
Saxeten is traversed by the Saxetbach, which flows into the Lütschine near Wilderswil .
history
On July 27, 1999, a canyoning accident occurred in the Saxetbach gorge, in which 21 young people from Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa and Switzerland were killed.

tourism
Saxeten is the starting point for numerous hikes, to the Suls-Lobhornhütte , over the Rengglipass to Aeschiried , via Wilderswil to the Schynige Platte .
schools
For a few years now, Saxeten has had a day school that is attended by children from the community as well as individual children from surrounding communities. Since a maximum of twelve children are taught from the first to the ninth grade, each one can be dealt with very individually.
traffic
The Berner Oberland-Bahnen (BOB) travel from Interlaken Ost to Wilderswil . From there the post bus goes to Saxeten.
