Hofstetten bei Brienz is a municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
In addition to the residents' community, there is a civil community and a threshold corporation with the same name.
Place name
Hofstetten (Swiss German "Hostet") is based on the Old High German generic word hovastat , which means "place where a building is listed".

geography
Hofstetten is located in the Bernese Oberland in the Alps . The neighboring municipalities starting from the north and clockwise are Giswil , Lungern , Brienzwiler , Brienz and Schwanden bei Brienz . The Aare forms the southern boundary of the municipality . Also in the south, but a little higher, is the small Wyssensee.
While the village is in the south at about 580 m. ü. M. is located, the municipality stretches far to the north, gently rising to the peaks Arnihaggen (2207 m. Above sea level) and Höch Gumme (2205 m. Above sea level). The area below is called Gummenalp .
Attractions
The well-known open-air museum Ballenberg is in the municipal area of Hofstetten.
