Lütschental is a municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

geography

Lütschental lies between Gündlischwand and Grindelwald in the Bernese Oberland . Of the municipal area of ​​12.9 km², 30 percent is used for agriculture; 37 percent are forest. The summit of Winteregg, the highest mountain in the municipality, is at an altitude of 2555 meters. Lütschental lies in the valley that leads from Interlaken to Grindelwald. The name Lütschental is related to the name of the Lütschine river that flows through the valley.

history

The scattered settlement was mentioned in 1238 as Liscinthal . In 1275 there was talk of Lyzental . In the 13th century, the Augustinian provostry of Interlaken acquired goods and rights in Lütschental. In 1349 the people of the village took part in the revolt against the monastery. In 1528 they came to Bern and the Landvogtei Interlaken. Ecclesiastically the village belongs to the parish of Gsteig near Interlaken .

In 1888 many residents emigrated and left the village. Today there is work in cattle and alpine farming, in the Jungfrau Railway's power station built in 1908 and in tourism. The flooding of the Black Lütschine in August 2005 devastated large parts of the village.
