Burggrub Castle (Geiselwind)

The Burggrub Castle is a former noble residence in hostage Winder district Burggrub in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen.

history

The village of Burggrub was first owned by the Counts of Castell before it was completely abandoned at the beginning of the 16th century. The brothers Konrad, Heinrich and Georg zu Castell sold the desolate hamlet to the Lords of Crailsheim in 1568 . Wolfgang von Crailsheim resettled residents and built a small castle for himself and his family.

The complex was initially surrounded by a moat and equipped with a wall and corner towers. In 1732 the village and the castle came to the princes of Schwarzenberg . The new owners made further changes to the castle. Today the remains of the building are part of an agricultural property. The castle in Burggrub is classified as a monument by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments , the remains of the previous buildings are listed as a ground monument.

description

The preserved remains of the castle are in house no. 9 at the junction from the district road KT 49. It is a plastered house with a hipped roof and bell tower. In addition, a round-arched entrance and remains of the former moat have been preserved. A barrel vaulted cellar is located below the facility.
