The eighth season of the American television series Scrubs - The Beginners celebrated its premiere on January 6, 2009 at the station ABC . The Swiss free TV broadcaster SF Zwei broadcast the German-language first broadcast from January 21 to March 3, 2010.

With the beginning of the eighth season, the series was taken over by broadcaster ABC. The 19 episodes were shot by early September 2008.

The board asks Dr. Cox asks whether he wants to take over the position of chief physician, but Dr. Kelso unsettles him. Jordan has to help Kelso get her husband back on track and accept. Denise gets another lesson from JD on compassion, but sometimes that's the wrong way JD needs to realize.

Dr. Cox starts his first day as chief physician. Soon he has to grapple with various problems that overwhelm him. Everyone wants something from him, he no longer comes out of his office. But he gets help from the old boss, Dr. Kelso. The caretaker is playing a prank on him with a picture that he should hang up in his office. Elliot has to learn from Carla that she can achieve more if she is not so condescending towards the sisters.

The caretaker and JD have to help Ted, he's fallen madly in love with Stephanie, but can't get a sound out as soon as he stands across from her. Dr. Cox is still struggling with his time management. He wants to do everything himself, but always has too little time. He finds it difficult to accept help. He's so upset about Ed's laziness that he dismisses him.

JD is off and Elliot misses him. Everything is dragging her down, especially the elderly patient who dies unexpectedly. Dr. Kelso gives her some advice on how to act in their relationship. Carla tells Turk that she is pregnant again, he wants to tell everyone about it, but the joy is not so great as it is the second child. So he tells Stephanie it will be his first and it gets into a lot of trouble. Carla should help Sunny take care of a patient, but she doesn't feel like it. Dr. This annoys Cox so much that he visits her home and gives her his opinion.

JD and Turk organize the annual sketch show where beginners parody doctors. When Denise and Sunny play JD and Turk as a couple in love, they both realize that this is how the whole hospital thinks of them. So they try to keep a distance from each other. Carla discovers long hair on her chest and says no one is watching her when she pulls it out. But the caretaker and Dr. Kelso get it. The caretaker wants to talk to Carla about it, but she pretends that nothing has happened. Elliot tries to get Denise to not stay in the hospital all the time, but also to go out. It takes a ruse to prove to her that she is right.

Turk treats a patient who has a broken neck. There is a risk that he will remain paralyzed. Thanks to a contribution to the television program “Sportscenter”, he dares a new therapy and is successful. Dr. Cox annoys Jordan that he has been wearing his wedding ring for months, even though they are no longer married. The caretaker is afraid that he will lose Lady because she doesn't want to hold hands. Elliot puts the two couples on the right path, which she also treads with JD and is therefore happy.

Kim introduces JD and Elliot to her new boyfriend, Elliot's ex-boyfriend Sean. JD has a problem because Sam always cries when he picks him up. He suspects a conspiracy by Sean, but his new aftershave is actually the reason. He also decides to move so that he can be closer to Sam.

Sometimes things change faster than you think. But the caretaker is extremely annoyed, he wants everything to stay as it is. Nevertheless, JD decides to change jobs and work in Kim's clinic because the way is too far for him after the move. Ted and Stephanie also want to move in together and Turk shows when treating a patient that he is now in charge as chief surgeon.

The last day at the Sacred Heart begins for JD with the realization that Elliot is secretly moving in with him. The caretaker annoys him again about the penny he is supposed to have put in the door and Dr. Cox doesn't want to hear about a sentimental farewell. He also has to tell his last patient a bad diagnosis. But her son doesn't want to know if he also has the inherited disease, which confuses JD.

Thanks to Sunny’s support, JD manages to get Dr. Cox says something positive about him and also that he will miss him. He wants to know from the son of his terminally ill patient why he is not being tested; his answer also helps him, because we should let the future come to us with an open mind. In his last daydream, he says goodbye to old colleagues, acquaintances and patients and sees how the future could develop.

In the United States , the eighth season DVD was released on August 25, 2009. In Germany , the DVD for the eighth season has been available since July 22, 2010.
