The Seelsche Bruch is a former swamp in Saxony-Anhalt . It is also popularly called Et Brauk .

location

The original lake between the villages of Hakenstedt , Uhrsleben , Erxleben / Eimersleben , Ummendorf and Ovelgünne was drained in 1720. The Glockenborn rises south of the quarry .

history

As early as 1550, the lake Seelsche See, which was then still rich in fish, had to be dammed in order to secure the fishermen 's income. The reeds growing in the Seelschen See were cut in winter. It was used as roofing in the surrounding areas. The northern half of the lake belonged to Erxleben Castle and its southern half to Ummendorf Castle . The lords of Alvensleben had six fishermen for the lake, most of whom lived in Uhrsleben. In the lake there was an island built with a fisherman's house, today's Nesselberg . It is said that the Lords of Alvensleben took gondola rides on the lake in the 17th century and visited a summer house built on the island. On the southern edge of the former lake is the Kahnberg , which was probably used as a landing stage for fishing boats.

The name of the lake and today's quarry goes back to the originally south of the lake, but now deserted village Selschen . The village of Klein Hakenstedt was located north of the lake, roughly in the south-eastern area of today's Vorwerk Eimersleben .

The lake was then affected by silting processes and became a fracture or swamp area, from which the former islands and higher areas protruded as clumps overgrown with bushes.

In 1720 negotiations began to drain the quarry. On maps from this time, the lake is still indicated with a length of five kilometers. In the north-western part of the lake between the Hülberg and the Reiherhals a deep ditch was then dug, which drained the water into the Aller . The main trench and various side trenches were created in the quarry for further drainage. The Tiedgenmühle , which belongs to the Eimersleben manor, had to cease operations due to the changed water situation . The municipality of Hakenstedt then joined the project and began to drain their part of the quarry as well. An important advocate of the project was the creator Christoph Zimmermann .

In 1724 the first meadows and arable land could be distributed to the surrounding towns. For Hakenstedt, the Seelsche Bruch was divided into an estate and a peasant half. This can still be seen today from the path leading into the Bruch, separated by a ditch.

From 1906 to 1909 the rift system was reorganized and in 1907 a break cooperative was founded. In the 1950s, further efforts were made to drain the quarry.

today

In the last few decades, a progressive drying up of the Seelschen Bruch has become noticeable.

Due to the influence of socialist agriculture (large-scale farming ), the small game , which was abundant in earlier decades, was almost completely banned from the Seelsche Bruch biotope . In 2006, compensatory measures began, which were set in motion by the expansion of the A 2 .
