Siejnik ( German  Elisenhöhe ) is the name of two adjoining villages in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . They belong to the urban and rural community Olecko (Marggrabowa , colloquially also Oletzko , 1928 to 1945 Treuburg) in the powiat Olecki ( Oletzko district , Treuburg district 1933 to 1945 ).

Geographical location

The two places Siejnik are located in the east of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , one and two kilometers southwest of the district town of Olecko , and form part of the city ( Polish dzielnica miasta ) or a separate village ( wieś ).

history

The place, which existed before 1945 and belonged together without dividing borders, was founded as a dismantling carpenter in the first half of the 19th century and was named Elisenhöhe since December 29, 1853 . Originally it consisted only of a large courtyard and was a residential area in the municipality or town of Marggrabowa (1928 to 1945: Treuburg, Polish Olecko ). In 1905 Elisenhöhe already comprised four houses with 56 residents.

As a result of the war, Elisenhöhe came to Poland in 1945 with all of southern East Prussia and was given the Polish place name "Siejnik". While the north was integrated into the city of Olecko, the south remained independent as a place, but became a place in the network of the urban and rural community Olecko (Marggrabowa , 1928 to 1945 Treuburg) , to which the city of Olecko also belongs - within the Powiat Olecki ( Oletzko district , Treuburg district from 1933 to 1945 ), until 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

church

Elisenhöhe was included in both the Evangelical Church of Marggrabowa and the Catholic parish church of the district town.

Since 1990 the Siejnik district has had its own Catholic parish “św. Rodziny ”(Holy Family), which includes the Catholic church members of the village Siejnik and belongs to the diocese of Ełk of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland . Protestant church members orientate themselves towards the church in Ełk (Lyck) in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .

traffic

Until the construction of the bypass around the city of Olecko , the Polish state road DK 65 (former German Reichsstraße 132 ) ran through both parts of Siejnik. Today they are at the - after a few kilometers to the "new" country road bumping - arterial road from Olecko to Elk (Lyck) .

Until 1945, Elisenhöhe was a train station on the Marggrabowa – Schwentainen railway line ( Olecko – Świętajno in Polish ), which, however, was decommissioned due to the war. Today there is a rail connection via the train station in Olecko to the Ełk – Olecko section of the former Ełk – Tschernjachowsk ( German Lyck – Insterburg ) railway .
