The 1988 season is the third season of the Skaterhockey-Oberliga (also West German Oberliga, WOL), in which a German champion is determined. The organizer is the Skater Hockey Division (FSH) in the German Roller Sports Association . The fourth in the previous year, Düsseldorf Rams, prevailed as the new German champion ahead of HC Köln-West. Newcomer TG Münster withdrew from the game during the season.

The league starts with nine teams. Each team meets every other team in the first and second leg and in a game on a neutral pitch. There are two points for a win and one point for a draw. In the event of a tie at the end of the main round, the direct comparison decides on the ranking. The team that finished the season in first place are German champions. The teams in ranks eight and nine are relegated.
