The North relay team will start with nine teams each. Within each season, each team meets every other team in the return leg. There are two points for a win and one point for a draw. In the event of a tie at the end of the main round, the direct comparison decides on the ranking. The first four teams of each season reach the play-offs. The teams in ranks five to seven have achieved relegation. This season, no direct relegation was planned. The teams in eighth and ninth place should play a play-down series crosswise. The winners should have stayed in the 1st Bundesliga, the losers in the relegation should have played against the second of the two seasons of the 2nd Bundesliga. The two champions of the 2nd Bundesliga go straight to the 1st Bundesliga. The winner of the play-offs is German champions.

Remote playdowns
The play-down games should have been played in the " Best of Three " mode.
According to the table, the following play-down pairings would have resulted:
Rollin 'Pumpkins Oldenburg - Uedesheim Chiefs
Salt City Boars Lüneburg - Samurai Iserlohn
The Rollin 'Pumpkins Oldenburg had declared their waiver of the play-downs and were therefore considered relegated from the 1st Bundesliga. The Uedesheim Chiefs had thus achieved relegation without a fight. As a result, the second play-down series was canceled by the ISHD. The background to this is that the ISHD confirmed to the Uedesheim Chiefs club by a wrong interpretation of the competition rules for the game Samurai Iserlohn against Uedesheim Chiefs on August 29, 2009 the eligibility for a suspended player to the detriment of Samurai Iserlohn. Since the game rating according to the competition rules was legally valid after four weeks, this ISHD error could no longer be corrected formally correctly, especially since Uedesheim was not to blame for this problem. In the event of a game being repeated and a possibly different game result, other pairings could have resulted in the play-downs, which could have distorted competition due to Oldenburg's waiver. With this decision, Uedesheim, Lüneburg and Iserlohn had secured the league. As a consequence of this decision, the following relegation games against the second division of the 2nd Bundesliga were canceled, which were declared promoted without a fight.
Climbers
The Berlin Buffalos (champions of the 2nd Bundesliga North) and the Hotdogs Bräunlingen (champions of the 2nd Bundesliga South) as well as the Crefelder SC (2nd Bundesliga North) and the IHC Atting (second 2nd Bundesliga South) directly into the 1st Bundesliga.
