The 1st Bundesliga starts with twelve teams. Each team meets every other team in the first and second leg. There are three points for a win in regular time. If a game ends in a draw after 60 minutes, a penalty shoot-out follows immediately. Two points are awarded for a win after a shootout and one point for a loss after a shootout. In the event of a tie at the end of the main round, the direct comparison decides on the ranking. The first eight teams reach the play-offs. The teams in positions nine and ten have qualified for the next season. The teams in positions eleven and twelve will be relegated directly to the 2nd Bundesliga. The winner of the play-offs is German champions.

Explanations:
direct qualification for the play-offs + home rights
From the 2nd Bundesliga, the Commanders Velbert (champions of the 2nd Bundesliga North) and the Düsseldorf Rams (2nd of the 2nd Bundesliga North) are promoted directly to the 1st Bundesliga. The joint play-offs of the two second division seasons decide on promotion. Both teams have won their respective semi-final series. The Düsseldorf Rams became second division champions.
