mode

The North season starts with eleven, the South season with ten teams. Within each season, each team meets every other team in the return leg. There are two points for a win and one point for a draw. In the event of a tie at the end of the main round, the direct comparison decides on the ranking. The first four teams of each season reach the play-offs. The teams in ranks five to nine have achieved relegation. The teams in ranks ten (north and south) and eleven (north) will be relegated directly to the 2nd Bundesliga. There are no play-downs and relegation games this season. The winner of the play-offs is German champions.
