mode

The 1st Bundesliga starts with twelve teams. Each team meets every other team in the first and second leg. There are two points for a win and one point for a draw. In the event of a tie at the end of the main round, the direct comparison decides on the ranking. The first four teams reach the play-offs. The winner of the play-offs is German champions.

Since the Bundesliga was increased to 16 teams for the 2001 season and divided into a North and South relay (eight teams each), there were no direct relegations in the 2000 season. The teams in ranks five to ten have qualified for the next season. The teams in positions eleven and twelve contest a relegation against the two table thirds of the 2nd Bundesliga. The first two and the second two in the 2nd Bundesliga go straight to the 1st Bundesliga.

    Relegation

In the relegation duels, Moskitos Essen prevailed against VT Zweibrücken (3rd in the 2nd Bundesliga South) and Lucifer Kiel against Ahauser SV (4th in the 2nd Bundesliga North).

    Climbers

From the 2nd Bundesliga, the Powerkrauts Berlin (2nd of the North season), Bochum Lakers (3rd of the North season), Zweibrücker ERC Snipers (1st of the South season) and the Bockumer Bulldogs (2nd of the South season) get in directly the 1st Bundesliga.

The Crefelder SC as 1st of the North season has renounced the promotion. Therefore, the 2nd and 3rd of the northern seasons rose directly; the fourth moved up in the relegation.

    Mergers

The Bundesliga team SU Coeln merged for the new season with the second division club 1. RC Kosmos Frechen to form SUC Kosmos Frechen . The new club takes the place of the SU Coeln in the 1st Bundesliga.

Lucifer Kiel's first team joined the Hamburg Sharks , who take their place in the 1st Bundesliga. In the coming season, Lucifer Kiel will play in the Regionalliga Nordost, in which the club's second team has played so far.
