South Africa took 58 athletes to the 2008 Summer Paralympics in China's Beijing in part.

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the swimmer Natalie du Toit . She was also the most successful female athlete on the South African team with five gold medals. In the medal ranking, South Africa came in sixth as the best nation on the African continent.
