2017

There were two basketball competitions at the 2015 Summer Universiade , one for men and one for women. A total of 464 participants were divided between 23 selection teams and 16 women's selections. The men's competition started with group games on July 4th, 2015, and the women started their competition one day later. Both competitions ended with the gold medal final on July 13, with both competitions being won by the United States selections. The men's selection of the United States, which was made up of two guest players from the university selection of the University of Kansas , needed two extensions of five minutes each for the last and longest basketball game of this Universiade to defeat the German A2 selection, the first time since the summer Universiade in 1989 again won a medal. In addition, the Swiss student selection from a German-speaking country took part, after a total of three wins in eight tournament games, they achieved 18th place out of 23 participants in the men's competition.
