Sports Walk of Fame
The Sports Walk of Fame in Magdeburg is a place to honor the achievements of athletes with a direct connection to Magdeburg.
The sports city of Magdeburg has produced more than 100 athletes since 1900 who brought over 400 medals to their hometown at the Olympic Games , World and European Championships . Of these, over 90 medals were won at the Olympic Games, over 200 at World Championships and 120 at European Championships. There are also numerous titles from club teams. The Sports Walk of Fame was laid out in 2007 on the street Breiter Weg in the old town of Magdeburg. In the first year, 10 athletes were selected from 150 suggestions with the help of the Magdeburger Volksstimme newspaper . The initiative came from the city marketing "Pro Magdeburg" eV. For each recipient, a granite slab with a bronze plaque with information about the recipient and a bronze plaque with the name of the sponsor is laid.
