The Church of St. Anna is a Catholic parish church dedicated to St. Anna in Biesingen in the Saarland , a district of Blieskastel , Saarpfalz district . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

In 1777 the Catholic parish of Biesingen was established, which at that time belonged to the diocese of Metz .

The current parish church was built between 1903 and 1905 according to plans by the architect August Barth ( Kaiserslautern ). The dilapidated and too small previous building was torn down. The inauguration took place in 1905.

During the Second World War , the Biesingen parish had to give up three of its four bells in 1941 and was only allowed to keep the smallest.

In the years 1988 to 1995 and 2008 the church was restored .

In August 1992 a storm caused so much damage to the church tower that the tower had to be completely removed.

The church tower was prevented from being blown up

According to local research in Blieskastel, on March 15, 1945, citizens of Biesingen secretly removed explosives from the church tower that had been installed by an SS unit , thus preventing the church and the surrounding houses from being destroyed. The tower was supposed to be blown up as it could have served as a point of reference for advancing enemy artillery. A 2007 calendar distributed by the Saarpfalz district stated that these SS members were soldiers of the 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division "Götz von Berlichingen" . A former SS soldier sued the district court against this claim. At the suggestion of the court, a settlement was reached after the Saarpfalz district no longer claims that members of the 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division were involved in the plan to blow up the tower of the church. Accordingly, they were SS soldiers of unknown origin.

Architecture and equipment

The church building was a neo-Gothic sandstone - hall church with five window bays and open roof erected. Attached to the building is a chancel closed on three sides to which a sacristy is attached. The 49 m high, slender church tower with a pointed helmet is visible from afar .

Inside the church, the furnishings from the time it was built have largely been preserved. These include the high altar and the side altars “St. Joseph ”and“ Maria ”from 1905, which were made by the Ferdinand Stuflesser company ( Ortisei / South Tyrol ). The church windows by the Schmitt brothers ( Bamberg ) from 1905 have also been preserved . The furnishings also include an Anna Selbdritt group for a church in Trier, created in the second half of the 17th century . It was bought in 1916 and restored in 1958.

On the church forecourt there is a bronze statue of Christ by the sculptor Franz Lechinger ( Lug / Pfalz ) from 2003. It serves as a replacement for a statue of Christ made of fine-grained yellow sandstone on a red base, donated in 1995 by the retired pastor Alfons Wilhelm, the founder of the statue , did not like.

The organ was built in 1913 as Opus 1159 by GF Steinmeyer & Co. ( Oettingen ). The instrument, with largely the original disposition , has 20 registers , divided into two manuals and a pedal . The organ is set up on a gallery and has a free-standing console . The sound is controlled by pneumatic membrane drawers .

Due to the time it was built, the organ shows typical romantic register colors such as Fugara , Salicional , Vox coelestis and the like. a.

In 1994 the organ was renovated by Hugo Mayer Orgelbau ( Heusweiler ). The trumpet register 16 ′ was added.
