The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Martin in Niederhöcking , a district of Landau an der Isar in the Lower Bavarian district of Dingolfing-Landau , is a modern church building erected in 1997 and 1998, incorporating the structures of the previous church. The “ original parish ” to the right of the Isar , which was important in earlier times, includes the parish church as well as the subsidiary churches of St. Johannes in Usterling and the Conception of Mary in Zulling as well as three side churches in Oberhöcking, Thanhöcking and Weihern.

history

A first church in Höcking (Heikkinga) was mentioned at the end of the 9th century. In addition, Höcking was an "original parish" of the diocese of Regensburg in the area to the right of the Isar from this early period . Correspondingly, archaeologists have found numerous testimonies to this long church history, for example many graves, foundations of previous buildings of today's parish church and even ceramics from around the year 1000 AD.

Instead of a previous Romanesque building , a Gothic church was built in the first half of the 15th century. Its nave and west tower were changed in the neo-Gothic style in 1855 . In 1997 and 1998 the church was significantly enlarged through the construction of a new, modern church space across the old nave. The consecration of the new building, including the parish hall took the diocesan Bishop Manfred Müller before November 15, 1998th

In June 2010, the theft of a group of figures of the Holy Family from the Niederhöcking parish church caused quite a stir. Only two days after the disappearance of the figures, they were brought back by an outside pastor after the thief had handed them over to him in the confessional .

architecture

The modern church building, built in 1997/98 with a steep, tent-like saddle roof , faces north. The new church space with 230 seats now extends across the nave of the previous church, the length of which corresponds to the width of the new building. The presbytery of the new church is housed in a kind of bay window that is reminiscent of a three-sided choir closure. This is illuminated by two painted ribbon windows. The south facade is structured by two pilasters , which enclose the main portal and the rose window above the organ gallery. Below the newly built church is the parish hall, as it were as a symbol for the community as the foundation and support of the church.

The essentially Romanesque west tower, which was remodeled in a neo-Gothic style in 1855, and the east-facing choir from the first half of the 15th century were retained from the previous building. An adoration chapel was set up on the ground floor of the tower, which is largely undivided from the outside. The tower merges into an eight-sided pointed helmet above the sound openings and tower clocks by means of four triangular gables . The Gothic choir, structured by pointed arched window openings and offset buttresses , now serves as a weekday chapel. It is spanned by a rib vault in a star-shaped configuration.

Furnishing

A depiction of the Merciful Jesus based on the vision of St. Maria Faustyna Kowalska is attached in the center of the high altar wall . The painting is surrounded by seven cross-shaped reliefs depicting the seven bodily works of mercy . These commemorate the work of the church patron Martin von Tours (Remembrance day: November 11th). This theological program was devised by Pastor Friedrich Teetz, who was responsible for pastoral care in Niederhöcking from 1994 to 2012 . The implementation was the responsibility of the parish artists Josef Mayer (drafts) and Josef Paleczek (execution). Paleczek also created the folk altar , the ambo , the Easter candlestick , the sediles , the figures of the Fátima Madonna and St. Martin as well as the Marienbrunnen in the cemetery . The side windows in the presbytery and the rose window on the south facade with a representation of the Holy Trinity come from Josef Wenleder from Oberhöcking .

In addition, numerous pieces of equipment were taken over from the previous church. The baroque images of the apostles adorn the gallery parapets again in the new building. In addition, the choir arch crucifix , the mission cross and the crosses with the chandeliers of the Apostles were given new places. The neo-Gothic Way of the Cross from 1856 was also re-installed in the modern church. Four glass windows from the old nave were re-installed in a cross shape on the west facade. They represent the saints Martin, Georg , Notburga and Theresa of the Child Jesus . The neo-Gothic high altar from 1870 was left in its original position and is now used as an altar in the weekday chapel. Here is also the oldest piece of equipment in the church, the font from the 14th century .

organ

The organ in the new parish church of Niederhöcking was completed in 2002. It is Opus 247 from Thomas Jann Orgelbau from Allkofen near Laberweinting . The inauguration of the organ took the Domdekan and Prelate Franz Xaver Hirsch before April 21 of 2002.
