Steindl is a district of the Markt Thalmässing in the Central Franconian district of Roth in Bavaria .

The village is about four and a half kilometers northwest of Thalmässing. The Altbach, which rises to the east, flows through the village and flows into the Roth in the neighboring Ziegelhütte district .

Steindl was first mentioned in a document in 1270. The name probably means "small rock". The former district of the municipality of Stauf was incorporated into Thalmässing on July 1, 1971 as part of the municipal reform along with its main town.

The district road RH 25 that crosses the village leads to Eysölden and to the state road St 2225 towards Thalmässing. The former train station is located in the north-west of the rest of the city. The Gredl cycle path runs past this on a disused section of the Roth – Greding railway line .

The place has retained its village structure, there are only few settlements.
