history

Chronicle of the village of Pyras for the 700th anniversary, written by Erhard Birngruber, cover picture by Tristan Knoll.

13th century : In the first documentary mention from 1297, Pyras wascalled Biraiz in Middle High German . Up to the year 1582 there were 16 more similar forms of name in documents. Based on this, four different theses are represented as to the original meaning of the place name Biraiz . Biraiz is used as the genitive of a name, e.g. B. from Perhat ("Perhats") or from Pirhat ("Pirhats") seen or separated in two ways in two word components. Bir and aiz were interpreted as "the wild pasture", "pasture on the pear tree" and "pasture area of Bero, Bera or Biri (n)", while Bir and (r) aiz were interpreted as the place of the "bear crack". Later, until about 200 years ago, the name was spelled Byrras throughout.

17th century : The village wascompletely destroyedin the 30 Years War around 1631–1648. In the 1650s, a settlement of Austrian exiles was recorded in the village, who were expelled from their homeland for reasons of faith and resettled here with remaining locals.

19th century : Pyras has always belonged to the Protestant parish of the neighboring town of Eysölden . For example, the chandelier and the Eysölden Church Bible were donated by Pyraser in 1863. Thelandmark of Pyras, which resemblesa church or chapel , was built in 1864 and has a bell tower with a clock. It was used as a community, fire-fighting equipment or (as it is today) as a residential building.

Six farms belonged to Pyras around the 1860s. The Schrötzenhof , Löffelhof , Vogthof , Lotterhof , as well as the Heindl- and Zereshof . Because of the close proximity to the border with the Upper Palatinate , Pyras already belonged to Middle Franconia (Bavarian area Greding and District Office Beilngries ), but the associated farms were part of the Upper Palatinate Hilpoltstein (District Office Neumarkt ). In 1880 this border was straightened and moved to the east . The newly established Hilpoltstein district office (later Hilpoltstein district ) took on Pyras.

20th century : Structural remains of a tunnel tube and two bridge piers of the abandoned Mindorf line of the Main-Danube Canal have been preserved from the time of the Second World War in 1938.

The formerly independent municipality was incorporated into the Eysölden market on July 1, 1972 as part of the municipal reform and on May 1, 1978 together with it to Thalmässing. With the dissolution of the Hilpoltstein district, the place was included in the Roth district.

A village chronicle was drawn up for the 700th anniversary in 1997, and a large 700th anniversary celebration took place in the summer of the same year.

Economy and Infrastructure

economy

  • Inner-city: The village is dominated by agriculture . In addition to various small businesses, the Pyras country brewery plays an important role. The local inn is only open for meetings and special events.

technical infrastructure

  • Electricity: The first electricity connection was made in 1926 to the Bernreuther brewery, which was already supplied. In 1941, a separate power connection was installed by the Franconian overland plant (today " N-ERGIE "). In 2014, a photovoltaic system was installed near the brewery. The PV system consists of 984 modules, which are combined in 41 units of 24 modules each 12 meters long and 3.20 meters wide.
  • Water: At first the village was supplied from one of the local wells. In 1961 a group water supply system was agreed with the towns of Jahrsdorf , Lay , Karm and Pierheim . The wastewater was initially collected in cisterns on the respective properties and emptied from there regularly. At the end of the 1990s, a local sewer network was laid and the entire site was connected to the brewery's existing sewage treatment plant.
  • Transport connections: The district road RH 24 runs through Pyras . From this the district road RH 25 branches off in the direction of the 3.5 km east-running A 9 motorway (exit 56 Hilpoltstein).
  • Private transport: The cycle route Nuremberg - Rothsee - Altmühltal , and the St. James Nürnberg- Eichstaett through the village.

Social infrastructure

  • Village center: After the inn was closed to the public, a new village center (consisting of a community and fire station with an adjoining village square) was worked out by a team of architects and residents as part of an ongoing village renewal program. The result was presented in November 2018. The project is currently in the planning stage and is to receive government funding.
