Steinmühle is a district of the large district town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber in the Ansbach district in Middle Franconia .

geography

The wasteland lies on the Tauber and the Blinkbach, which flows here as a left tributary into the Tauber. A local road leads to state road 1022 (0.1 km southeast), which runs to Rothenburg to state road 2419 (0.5 km east) or to Bossendorf (5 km west).

history

The mill has been attested since the 12th century. This makes the stone mill the oldest mill in Rothenburg. Its original name was "Bruckenmühle". In the following years it was called "Baumgartsmühle", "Mill behind the altenpurk", "Mill near the Kaiserstuhl", "Mill of Bullensteinin" and "Mill of Peter Hirsching". In 1650 it was expanded into a free-standing sawmill.

With the community edict (early 19th century), the place was assigned to the tax district and the municipal community of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

Around 1920 it was modernized into an art mill and operated as a grain mill until 1980. Today the mill building serves as a residential building.
