Stephan Kullberg (born January 10, 1959 ) is a Swedish former football player . After the end of his active career, the defender , who was twice Swedish champion with IFK Göteborg , took over activities in the coaching field.

Career

Kullberg, who grew up in Mönsterås, started playing football there. He later joined Åtvidabergs FF . With the club he played in the back of the Allsvenskan . As a regular player, he missed almost no league game in the years after promotion at the end of 1977. The 1982 season he ended with the team around Jörgen Augustsson , Glenn Martindahl and Peter Karlsson in the last place in the table. In the subsequent relegation games , the club failed at Mjällby AIF after a 0-1 defeat and a 1-1 draw.

After relegation, Kullberg followed his former teammate Thomas Wernersson , who had moved three years earlier, to IFK Göteborg . In the reigning champions he replaced Conny Karlsson, who had emigrated to the United States, and established himself as a regular at the side of Stig Fredriksson , Glenn Hysén , Glenn Schiller and Tommy Holmgren . After he had won his first title in the summer by a 1-0 final win against Hammarby IF with the national cup , he also reached the final in the championship finals with the team. There she prevailed against Östers IF and got the double . In the 1984 season he played in all 22 regular-time games. The team coached by Björn Westerberg had finished the round as first in the table and remained undefeated in the play-off games. With a 5-1 away win and a 2-0 win in the second leg against IFK Norrköping , she also dominated the two final games. The title hat trick was just barely missed by Kullberg. In the following year, the team, now trained by Gunder Bengtsson , moved into the final of the Von Rosens Cup again , but against local rivals Örgryte IS the team missed defending their title.

In the 1986 season, Kullberg moved to Djurgårdens IF within Allsvenskan . Before the start of the season, he played one last time in the European Cup for IFK Gothenburg when the club beat FC Aberdeen in the quarter-finals . After Hysén was injured, the club tried to get the player to play in the semi-finals, but the new club did not give him clearance. Therefore Ruben Svensson, on loan from Västra Frölunda IF , was used in a duel with FC Barcelona . With the promoted team he had no chance in the following season and got down with him from the Allsvenskan. After the direct resurgence, he was one of the guarantors that the club established itself in the front midfield of the league. In 1988 he was again in a championship final, against Malmö FF the team supervised by Tommy Söderberg was defeated after a 0-0 draw in the first leg with a 3-7 defeat - Martin Dahlin scored four goals. In 1989 he met the same opponent with the club in the cup final, which was also lost. The following year he also won a title with the Stockholm club: in the cup final, the team prevailed with a 3-0 win against BK Häcken .

In the 1991 season , Kullberg moved to the side of Mikael Martinsson , Krister Nordin , Jens Fjellström and Peter Skoog in the championship series, which the club finished fifth. He then ended his higher-class career after 105 first division games for Djurgårdens IF and joined the third division club IF Brommapojkarna . With the club he won the spring championship in his third division season before Assyriska Föreningen and managed to stay in the second division in the fall. After a ninth place in the table in the following year, he moved again to the third division. After he was promoted to the second division with Gimonäs CK at the end of the 1995 season , he ended his active career.

At the end of 2007, Kullberg joined the third division Ersboda SK as the assistant coach of Örjan Andersson . After the relegation of the new league at the end of the third division season in 2008 , he remained loyal to the club. In May 2011, the higher-class local competitor Umeå FC signed him for his coaching staff.
