  • The coordination and bundling of the interests of the partners in the Humboldt Forum.
  • The organization of a permanent exhibition on the subject of Historic Center Berlin - Identity and Reconstruction.

Construction project

On July 4, 2002, the German Bundestag accepted the - narrowly approved - recommendation of the International Expert Commission on Historic Center Berlin . The resolution adopted for this purpose provides for the urban redesign of the Spree island to be largely based on the historical city plan and for the building of the palace area to be based on the cubature of the former Berlin palace . The German Bundestag also followed the recommendation of the commission to rebuild the baroque facades on the north, west and south sides as well as in the Schlüterhof.

Reconstruction of the Berlin Palace

On December 21, 2007, the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning (BBR) announced a competition for the reconstruction of the Berlin City Palace and the construction of the Humboldt Forum Berlin. Franco Stella received first prize for his design. The shell construction work started in June 2013. After the reconstruction of the Berlin Palace, the building complex will house the future Humboldt Forum, which is scheduled to open in 2019.

donate

The additional costs of the reconstruction of the baroque facades compared to a contemporary facade design amount to 80 million euros. These 80 million euros are raised through a private fundraising campaign. In particular, the non-profit association of the Berlin Palace has been collecting funds for the reconstruction of the baroque facades since 2004 with a broad-based collection of donations.

Acquiring donations for the reconstruction of the historical facades and the construction of the Humboldt Forum are also among the tasks of the foundation. As a cooperation partner of all private institutions that collect donations for the reconstruction of the Berlin Palace, all donations go to the foundation, which, as the client, finances the reconstruction of the baroque facades.
