Strohauser Vorländer und Plate is the name of a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Stadland and the city of Brake in the Wesermarsch district .

The nature reserve with the label NSG WE 260 is 1,152  hectares in size. It is completely part of the EU bird sanctuary "Unterweser". Slightly more than half of the area is still part of the FFH area "Lower Weser with Strohauser Plate and Juliusplate". The area has been a nature reserve since December 13, 2007. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Wesermarsch district.

The protected area lies between Nordenham and Brake before Rodenkirchen . It includes the dykes on the left Weser shore between the Butjadinger supply and drainage channel at unterweser nuclear power plant and the national road 889 as access for the ferry Brake-Sandstedt, the Schweiburg , a branch of the Weser, with the harness and of about 470 hectares Weser island Strohauser Plate .

Nature reserve "Strohauser Vorländer and Plate"

The nature reserve is completely tide influenced. It is characterized by extensively used grassland , riparian forest residues and extensive reed beds of reeds and cattails and river Watten . On the Strohauser Plate, around 220 hectares are grassland, of which around 197 hectares are protected by summer dikes, and 230 hectares are reed beds. The nature reserve serves in particular to protect various species of birds . The marsh harrier , corncrake , bluethroat , whinchat , reed bunting , pond warbler , reed warbler , swamp reed warbler , chiffchaff , fitis , reed warbler , blackcap , lapwing , redshank , godwit , oystercatcher , cuckoo , skylark and sheep are native to the nature reserve . The ditches in the grassland provide a suitable habitat for various ducks , including spoonbills and tufted ducks . The nature reserve is u. a. visited by the white stork , bittern and curlew for foraging.

The number of breeding meadow birds declined between 1990 and 2014. The number of breeding lapwing fell from 85 to 28 pairs, the black-tailed godwit from 80 to 9 pairs and that of the redshank from 40 to 7. The Mellumrat , who looked after the area from 1990 to the end of 2014, gives the reason for the decline in Birds think that the soil is not too wet.

Swan flowers and arrowheads settle in the trenches in the nature reserve . The waters in the nature reserve are habitat and a. of pond bat , feint , sea and river lamprey .
