The Synagogue of Diemeringen , a French parish in the Bas-Rhin department in the historic Alsace region , is a house of worship that was built in 1867/68. The synagogue is at number 5, rue du Vin. It has been protected as a monument historique since 1999 .

history

A prayer room in a Jewish private house was initially used for worship . After a Jewish schoolhouse was built in 1862, worship services were held there in winter. The synagogue that still exists today was built in 1867/68 according to plans by the architect Louis Furst from Saverne . It received a small organ ( harmonium ), which was removed before 1890. In 1906 the synagogue was extensively restored after a fire.

During the Nazi era , during the German occupation of France in World War II , the synagogue was looted. In 1947 it was re-inaugurated as a house of worship.
