Tâmega is a statistical sub-region of Portugal and part of the Região Norte . It was named after the river of the same name . For the most part it consists of areas of the district of Porto and is completed by individual districts of the districts of Braga , Vila Real , Viseu and Aveiro . Ave and Alto Trás-os-Montes border the sub-region in the north, Douro in the east, Dão-Lafões and Entre Douro e Vouga in the south and Grande Porto in the west .

In 2001, 551,301 people lived in Tamega on an area of ​​2629 km².
