history

Background: Sixteen

In December 2013, JYP Entertainment announced the debut of a new girl group for the first half of the coming year. In February 2014, the JYP trainees Lena and Cecilia were announced as members, while there were rumors about possible further members. After Cecilia left the agency, she was to be replaced by Sana. However, Lena eventually left the agency and the group's debut was canceled.

On February 11, 2015 was Park Jin-young finally announced that the members of a new girl group by the talent show Sixteen radio station Mnet to be determined. Park stated in a press conference that the new group would have the "natural and healthy feel" of the Wonder Girls and Miss A , with a wilder and snappier side. The show started on May 5th, 2015. Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun and Chaeyoung emerged successfully as members of the Twice group. Park Jin-young later announced, however, that he was increasing the membership from seven to nine and adding Tzuyu and Momo. The reasons are Tzuyu's popularity with the fans of the casting show and Momo's performance.

On July 10, 2015, the group's Instagram account was opened with the first, official picture. Before the debut, the web series TwiceTV aired, with the stories and hopes of the members as they prepared for their debut.

In the meantime, the video for TT had been viewed more than 500 million times on the YouTube video platform by early 2020. Twice was also the previous record holder with Cheer Up .
