The Polytechnic University of Madrid ( Spanish Universidad Politécnica de Madrid , UPM ) is a technical university in Madrid . It was created in 1971 from the merger of several separate technical universities in the Spanish capital and the technical faculties of the former University of Madrid, the main part of which is now the University of Complutense Madrid .
The university is a member of the TIME network , which enables students to take part in a double degree program with leading universities abroad.
history
The origins of technical studies in Spain began in 1582 with the establishment of the Royal Academy of Mathematics under King Philip II . Although the Polytechnic University of Madrid only celebrated its 35th birthday in 2006, the majority of its various faculties were founded between the 17th and 19th centuries, which were independent until 1971.

- Ciudad Universitaria , the university district in Madrid
